Business Systems Lead

job summary:
We have a 6 month renewable contract for a Systems Business Lead for a client of ours in RTP, NC.

Role Purpose:

The Global Traits and Regulatory Knowledge and Data Management team is responsible for developing and maintaining tools and processes to ensure effective knowledge transfer and optimize work efficiency. As part of this team, the incumbent will work at the interface of the business teams and the IT teams to support the development, roll out, and maintenance of an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) platform for Seeds Research and Development and will be expected to learn all aspects of the business related to ELNs. This will include involvement in process evaluation and design, data models and software configuration, and change management, training, and roll out support.

Accountabilities

Short Term:

- Work with functions to evaluate processes and ensure that they are fit for movement into an ELN environment

- Ensure that Seeds R&D functions are connected to the project, setting up appropriate workstreams within R&D, including configuration and change management

- Lead the change management workstream-work with team leads on change management processes

- Ensure that a fit-for-purpose training plan and materials are in place prior to roll out

- Working with the IT PM and vendor, ensure configuration and testing stays within scope and is completed to specification and in a timely manner

- Make immediate configuration decisions or quickly flag any issues to ST&R KM Lead for decision or further escalation

- Work with the business analysts to translate scientists' requirements into actionable configuration stories, deciding when requirements are excessive or need further discussion

- Flag any areas that appear to not be well covered or thought out from a business standpoint

- Ensure appropriate documentation of business decisions on configurations

Longer term, working with functions and IT:

- Set roadmap for centralizing LIMS systems into the common ELN/LIMS software

- Manage enhancement requests

- Manage vendor relations with respect to new functionality requests and adoption/communications of vendor-initiated upgrades that impact users

- Maintain a training program for new users and for business administrators

- Maintain processes, including documentation, relating to ELNs

- Maintain system access and security profiles

- Run ELN/LIMS operations board and superuser network

- Support functions in updating ELN/LIMS to adjust process improvements or other changes

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

Critical knowledge:

B.S. or higher in a biology- or chemistry-related scientific field

General knowledge of plant breeding, molecular biology, or other agriculture-related scientific disciplines and processes

General knowledge of software development and administration in a multi-department setting, specific knowledge on ELN use and administration

Knowledge of project management principles and/or process improvement principles such as Six Sigma or LEAN desired

Critical experience and capabilities:

- Experience in lab or field work related to agriculture, plant breeding, molecular biology, or similar

- Strong capabilities in the interpretation and communication of business requirements and information into technical requirements and data

- Experience with using and/or implementing Electronic Lab Notebook and/or LIMS software

- Ability to provide input on design and implementation of tools and processes in one or more specialization areas: plant breeding, trait development, molecular biology

- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead cross functional, cross cultural teams
