job description

Sr. Software Engineer

job summary:
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, resulting in over 50,000

deaths annually in the United States. Colorectal cancer's high mortality rate is due in part to flaws in

existing methodologies to screen for the disease, including low compliance: Colonoscopies have

been the gold standard for detection of colorectal cancer, but they require patients to take time off

from work and to undergo an inconvenient preparation procedure, so that many patients avoid them.

Geneoscopy is building ColonoSight, using its platform technology to develop a stool-based,

multitarget RNA biomarker panel that can accurately identify colorectal cancer and advanced

adenoma by capturing the downstream effects of cancer-causing DNA mutations. The result is

expected to be a diagnostic test that can improve colorectal cancer screening compliance, facilitate

early-stage detection of colorectal cancer neoplasms, and reduce morbidity and mortality associated

with the disease.

Position Overview

Geneoscopy seeks an energetic and collaborative member of our software engineering team. Your

primary goal will be to aid in the development of Geneoscopy's diagnostic test by helping the lab

process samples faster through automation and developing the system that determines results from

patient data. This will involve a variety of tasks including automatically pulling data from lab

instruments, building a data pipeline for a machine learning algorithm, maintaining system

infrastructure on AWS, as well as general full stack development. The system is in the early stages

so there is plenty of opportunity to make meaningful and impactful contributions.

Responsibilities

? Front end development of our application using ReactJS and Jest/Enzyme for integration

testing

? Back end development of various services using Python and pyunit for unit and integration

testing

? Infrastructure management of an AWS deployment with both the AWS dashboard and

configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet

? Contribute to critical documentation such as requirements specifications and architecture

documents

? Integration with a variety of third parties (laboratory machine hardware, software

infrastructure monitoring services, etc).

Required Experience

? It is not necessary to have experience in all the areas listed in responsibilities, but a

candidate should have either front end and back end development experience, or back end

development and system administrator experience.

? Familiarity with SQL databases (we use Postgresql)

? Experience with automated testing or an intense desire to be part of an engineering

organization that prioritizes quality

? A strong understanding of how to apply software design patterns

? Capable of communicating and balancing trade-offs between multiple implementation paths

Preferred Experience

? Ensuring a HIPAA compliant system and good cybersecurity practices in general

? Experience with software used in CLIA labs

Why Work At Geneoscopy?

? You want your work to make a difference! Over 140,000 cases of colorectal cancer are

estimated to be diagnosed in 2020. The survival rate of late stage colorectal cancer is less

than 15%, while survival for an early stage is around 90%
