Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as a technical writer, preferably in industry (software, hardware, biotech). Experience with service documentation is a plus
  • Occasional travel required
  • Must function well in a fast-paced environment and independently manage multiple projects from concept to publication under tight deadlines and changing conditions
  • Influencing across boundaries, finding win-win solutions, and responding to obstacles creatively and resourcefully are all key characteristics
  • Sophisticated understanding of the principles and practices of tech writing is essential, as is expert knowledge of MadCap Flare (or similar), Adobe Acrobat, SnagIt (or similar), and Microsoft Office
  • Significant pluses are a proficiency in Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, expert knowledge of HTML, XML, and CSS; and scripting experience
  • Must be proficient in English, attentive to publications standards, and equipped with excellent grammatical and editorial skills

responsibilities:
Responsibilities:

  • Work with Product Support, Training, and Field Service Engineering to plan and write documentation for engineers who install, maintain, and troubleshoot scientific equipment and software at customer sites
  • Align with other writers on standards, conventions, project management, and tools
  • Solicit regular feedback from service engineers, accompany them on site visits to learn about their work, and make thoughtful recommendations about how writers can support them more effectively
  • Collect data by interviewing specialists, monitoring internal online forums, researching previous material, observing training and demonstrations, and using instruments and software
  • Propose technical improvements to authoring tools and work with technical leads to evaluate and implement
  • Take photographs and videos to illustrate the documentation; work with an illustrator to convert them to technical drawings
  • Release finished documentation to Document Control, and maintain organized records of all materials, drafts, and previous versions
  • Successfully manage multiple complex projects from concept to release under tight deadlines and external dependencies
  • Quickly learn and apply new tools, processes, and standards
