Java Developer

job summary:
The Senior Java Developer is responsible for Java EE application development supporting the operations of the Energy Compensation System (ECS), Division of Energy Employee Occupational Illness Compensation while providing expertise in software development lifecycle phases from concept and design to testing.

The Senior Java Developer performs hands-on coding, and mentors junior developers and assists in architecting system solutions.

The Senior Java Developer update, repairs, modifies, and expands existing Java and/or SOA-based applications.

The Senior Java Developer supports the program as a liaison to internal customers, research groups, and various business support areas.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess a well-developed ability to communicate verbally and in written form with both a technical and non-technical audiences
  • 7+ years Object Orientated Java design and development work
  • Must possess a solid foundation in Java Programming Language and experience working with various versions of the JDK in a fast-paced result-oriented environment
  • Experience working with the WebSphere platform is preferred
  • Previous development experience in a Multi-Tier development environment utilizing IBM RAD/RSA/Eclipse IDE, Java JDK, Enterprise Java-Beans (EJB3.x) highly preferred
  • Experience with object-relational mapping frameworks (Open JPA, Hibernate, etc.) and their query language (JPQL) preferred
  • Experience with web service technologies (JAX-WS, XML, XSD, etc.) and previous experience of implementing, consuming web services is a plus
  • Knowledge of database architecture and design and work experience with SQL programming with at least one of DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server
  • Knowledge Universal Modeling Language (UML) and Architecture principles are a plus
  • Ability to interpret written requirements and technical specification documents
  • Ability to code software according to published standards and design guidelines
  • Must possess solid troubleshooting skills and have the ability to solves complex problems
  • Flexible attitude, ability to perform under pressure and ability to handle change easily while meeting deadlines
  • A commitment to quality and a thorough detail-oriented approach to work assignments and the ability to work well within a team
Candidate is required to possess or successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), and an FBI Criminal History Check. Candidate will also be required to possess an active government public trust.
