Jr. Information Security Engineer

job summary:
We have a direct FTE role for a Jr. Security Engineer for a client of ours in Cary, NC.

The Jr. Information Security Engineer is an entry-level security position responsible for day-to-day information security processes that protect our information assets, networks, and endpoints. The ideal candidate will have a background in IT systems and Windows administration with at least some entry-level cybersecurity training and certifications and a passion for cybersecurity and constant learning. Additional responsibilities include monitoring for security issues, installing and configuring security software and documenting findings and tasks in accordance with corporate information security policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement security controls to safeguard Mediant endpoints
  • Assist the IT helpdesk with information security requests and problems
  • Upgrade systems to install and enable security software
  • Assist management in developing and implementing security standards and controls
  • Work with security team to perform tests and uncover network vulnerabilities
  • Monitor computer systems and networks for security issues
  • Security event investigation and analysis
  • Vulnerability scanning and patching
  • Act as the initial point of contact for security related questions and triage accordingly
Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 365
  • Experience administrating a Windows Domain network
  • Experience using Office 365 and associated services
  • Understanding of firewalls, SIEM, and antivirus management
  • Understanding of information security and cybersecurity principles and concepts
  • Experience or training in incident response best practices
  • Experience with vulnerability management and patching
  • Experience identifying, researching, and removing malware in a corporate environment
  • Experience with detection and remediation of e-mail phishing methods
Desired Skillset Requirements

  • Understanding of the security risks of working in a multi cloud environment with AWS and Azure
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • strong attention to detail and ability to work independently under tight deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand, maintain and support, approved network hardware
  • Experience working in the financial services industry
  • Knowledge of Windows Defender Firewall, Bitlocker, Active Directory and GPO's
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security +, CEH, GCIH or equivalent desirable
