IGM Project Manager

job summary:
This position will primarily be responsible for managing medium to large-scale projects within the Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM). IGM is a national leader in pediatric genomic medicine, impacting outcomes for children with cancer and other rare genetic conditions. These projects will include the implementation of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) as well as portfolio management, operational changes, process changes, and organizational change. The major focus of this role will be preforming project management for the LIMS, which is responsible for the capture, organization and tracking of data generated by our laboratories and informatics teams. The LIMS is used to facilitate the flow of information between instruments and systems used in the labs, to improve lab efficiency, to help ensure sample integrity, and to promote easy reporting. Additionally, the Project Manager will manage multiple programs within IGM, working closely with IGM's senior leadership, mangers, and team leads to provide strategic guidance in implementing and achieving IGM's strategic goals. The Project Manager will require a high-level of skill in management and organization to be successful.

The Project Manager will lead medium and large projects for the IGM. The Project Manager is responsible for core project deliverables based on project size, effective management of resources, following standard PMO methodologies and approaches, knowledge sharing, and is open to giving/receiving feedback. The Project Manager is responsible for helping to define and control project definition and scope. Will apply strong knowledge of implementing software systems, such as a LIMS, that support the laboratory environment by improving efficiency. Responsible for formulating, organizing, and monitoring inter-connected efforts which supports the technical and strategic assessment of programs with IGM. Guiding suitable strategies and objectives for portfolio optimization; takes into consideration current operational requirements to provide feedback to senior leadership in assisting with project prioritization. Responsible for managing stakeholder expectations, communications and satisfaction. Analyze new projects by helping to identify scope, resource requirements, portfolio impact, and priority.

Bachelor's degree required.

Master's degree desirable.

PMP certification desired.



  • strong skills in the use of PC desktop applications such as Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, and SharePoint.
  • Proven experience in IT project management and systems implementations.
  • Completed medium sized projects/programs using Waterfall methodology.
  • Working experience using Agile methodology.
  • Thorough understanding of project and program management techniques and methods for multiple co-occurring projects.
  • Desirable skills:

    • Previous healthcare experience.
    • Knowledge of laboratory technology and systems integration.
    • Experience with sample driven laboratory workflows.
    • Experience with LIMS systems.
  • Ability to modify work schedules and practices to meet job requirements; requires occasional overnight travel.


  • 3-7 years' experience information systems management, project management, and systems implementations.
  • Completion of a structured project management training program required.
