New Product Development Engineer

job summary:
We design and manufacture high performance industrial infrared pyrometers for use in process industries around the globe. The pyrometers are used to monitor and control process temperatures to help improve productivity and quality. Target industries include steel, aluminum, petrochemical, engineered materials, and other metal forming operations. All engineering and manufacturing operations are located in MA and our sales organization is made up of regional managers, reps, and resellers located around the world.

To support our growth, we are adding a Product Development Engineer to the engineering team to focus on the development and support of new and existing products. This new position will be responsible for the design, development, and support of embedded hardware and software for infrared pyrometer applications. The candidate shall possess excellent hardware and software development skills and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of embedded systems design.

The specific duties of this position are as follows:

  • Design and develop embedded hardware/software solutions for infrared pyrometers per development plans.
  • Sustaining and development of hardware/software solutions for existing pyrometer products.
  • Write and conduct validation tests on new hardware and software releases.
  • Interface with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams.
  • Identify or propose product and process improvements.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Education, Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of embedded or real-time software development in C/C++
  • 3+ years Circuit board level analog, digital, and microprocessor designs
  • Development experience in one or more of the following:

    • Instrumentation and control systems
    • ARM and PIC based microprocessors
    • U-Boot and Embedded Linux
    • Microsoft Visual Studio/C#
    • HTML and JavaScript
    • Designs for EMI compliance
    • Networking Protocols - Ethernet/TCP, MODBUS/TCP, and PROFINET
  • Experience with HW debuggers and developing low-level HW support software
  • Experience with source code control systems (e.g. GitHub, SVN)
  • Experience with Electromechanical systems (DC motors, optics)
  • Good oral and written communications
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work on a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Energetic with a strong sense of urgency and accountability to work independently
  • Comfortable in a small company environment (lots of responsibility and freedom with limited resources)
