Senior Business Systems Manager

job summary:
The Sr. Manager is a key member of the Information Technology leadership team and is responsible for developing, implementing and supporting the business applications that are used to run it's manufacturing business. This position manages the staff responsible for the maintaining the applications and master data that Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Quality, Health & Safety and Human Resources uses to perform their work.

This position leads the Application Development, ERP Application and Master Data Management teams. This role will not only manage staff, but lead projects and drives the use of and improves project management methods and the IT SDLC methodology throughout the IT department. This role plans resource availability to ensure projects can be done on-time, on-budget and with quality.

Projects range from further enhancing existing custom and package systems to implementing new package-based and custom solutions aimed at streamlining business processes and providing information to drive efficiencies and better decision making. Utilizes JD Edwards as its core manufacturing/financial system and ADP as its HR business application.

This position also lead the cross-functional IT Steering Team responsible for prioritizing IT enabled system efforts, provides monthly updates at the Monthly Operations Reviews and chairs the Change Management meetings associated with monthly application maintenance window.

This hands-on/player coach will utilize an internal team of resources, external partners and managed service/outsourcing agreements to deliver the application services. This necessitates solid, disciplined application leadership skills, an understanding of service management principles, solid project management skills and the ability to both direct resources and be consultative as required.

JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Lead and manage Application, Development and Master Data Management teams focused on delivering high levels of application functionality, performance, security and data accuracy to enable the business to efficiently and effectively perform their work processes.

  • Effective staff management including selection, development, coaching, goal setting, effective delegation and overall supervision of daily activities, including weekly 1:1 meetings to set priorities and work plans. Foster effective teamwork, productive and cooperative team culture.
  • Fostering a solid team-based culture of innovation and continuous improvement focused on the pursuit of service excellence
  • Ensuring staff applies all application security policies and standards so that system and data security for the computing environments is maintained.
  • Ensuring staff understand all service management (a.k.a help desk) processes and standards; keep activity and progress up to date in the service management system and maintain a consistently high level of focus on customer service delivery, including keeping support ticket backlogs low and achieving service level agreement targets.
  • Manage the customers system project definition, systems analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and support of technical solutions utilizing the customers application and development tool infrastructure.
  • Coordinate implementation of system enhancements, upgrades, updates, patches, and fixes to assure optimal system performance, data integrity, and reliability.
Serves as the key interface between IT and all business functions to determine current and future application and technology needs.

  • Enforcing and performing the creation and maintenance of documentation as it relates to process and application design and support/maintenance needs.
  • Assist your team with problem solving. Analyze changes in software and determine the impact on existing production systems, systems design, and operating procedures.
  • Maintaining a sound understanding of the businesses' broader strategic direction and needs and contribute to the development of initiatives to improve services to meet business requirements. This will require this position to work closely with the Shared Services Application; Technical Services and Service Desk leadership.
  • Continually staying abreast of advancements in technologies, service offerings and methods via self-study, leveraging personal and professional networks, including vendor relationships that would benefit the organization. Make recommendations that improve IT cost and/or risk and/or value profile.
  • Contributing to the development of the IT strategic plans and budgets.
Operational Leadership Of Application Services By

  • Lead the IT Steering Team to ensure requested projects are reviewed and prioritized and to communicate project updates.
  • Establishing a range of service delivery metrics to measure performance against agreed SLA's and providing an agreed set of performance reports to the IT and the leadership teams on a regular reporting cycle
  • Managing resources (internal and third party), establishing priorities, allocating and scheduling resources to undertake support, maintenance and project work. This position will also require hands on involvement in projects as appropriate.
  • Ensuring business applications (e.g. JD Edwards, DSI, Bottomline, ADP) are managed/supported effectively, delivering the required service to the business according to management expectations/agreed service levels.
  • Working closely with Technical Services, /Shareholder Applications/Services and Service Desk leadership, to ensure sound change management processes are followed in the development, installation and handover of new/upgraded services into production, including the allocation of people and resources to support projects and following established (or creating) change management processes and documentation standards.
  • Participate in ensuring that Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans are in place, and are regularly reviewed, tested and updated.
  • Proactively managing external service providers and consultants holding them accountable to provide services of the highest standards in accordance with established/agreed SLA's and/or statements of work.
  • Proactively managing vendor relationships and contracts for your area of responsibility to ensure no service disruption while optimizing cost, risk and benefit tradeoffs.
  • Be available/reachable during off business hours should primary support not be available or management level support is required (e.g. critical incident).
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering or Business (In lieu of formal qualifications, consideration will be given to candidates with relevant experience).
  • 5+ year experience managing business application teams, executing projects, maintaining applications and developing team/individual capabilities.
  • 10 years developing and supporting business applications for a manufacturer (required) and distributor (a plus)
  • Experience implementing and maintaining package software (e.g. ERP). JD Edwards experience is a plus.
  • Understanding and experience implementing online analytics and business intelligence capabilities to support better decision making is highly preferred.
  • Program Management certification is a plus
  • Solid understanding of project methodologies (e.g.waterfall, iterative, agile) and demonstrated ability to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the role of a player coach. Ability to be strategic, but "roll up sleeves" when required.
  • Experience aid Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and execution efforts
  • Application Solution Architecture planning and development experience
  • Experience defining and negotiating contracts and service level agreements
  • High levels of organization and IT application development and support discipline. Understanding of ITLL principles/practices is preferred.
  • Sound business acumen and the ability to manage the day-to-day delivery of services through internal staff and third-party providers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing
  • A passion for working on a team and demonstrated commitment to service delivery excellence and to instill that commitment into every team member.
