job summary:
The network engineer is primarily involved with analyzing, installing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure and application components while supporting technicians in the field. This role performs a wide variety of evaluation, installation, and training tasks to ensure performance measures are met. The role follows industry best practices and provides instruction on network configurations, installation of network and computing equipment, installation of cabling and other infrastructure products, and adheres to proper documentation and change management processes. The role is also responsible for supporting end-users by ensuring proper setup, operation, and maintenance of all devices necessary to accomplish business tasks.

  • Generate Network Configurations based upon client standards
  • Works with internal Engineers to develop Methods and Procedures
  • Perform all pre-change validation tasks including ping sweeps of existing switches prior to shut down to verify active devices
  • Works with Voice Engineering and onsite technicians to troubleshoot issues with voice equipment, including Voice Gateways and Analog lines
  • Perform network equipment provisioning, equipment configuration, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Create all required technical documentation in accordance with change Control and project management processes and procedures
  • Coordinate/direct onsite technician(s) for the network installation
  • Coordinate/direct onsite technician(s) if onsite troubleshooting is needed
  • Chair conference bridge during physical network installation and direct onsite technician(s) as needed for installation and/or troubleshooting
  • Submit equipment orders to WWT or staging vendor to have equipment shipped to its proper destination
  • Schedule onsite technician(s) (in coordination with the chosen vendor's Project Manager)
  • Monitor onsite technician(s) progress while on site, using Conference Bridge to monitor and conduct installation
  • Provide support for deployment issues
  • Extensive experience with various routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
  • Able to troubleshoot routing issues
  • Provides effective production support including accurate problem identification, ticket documentation and customer/vendor dialogue (IE circuit issues)
  • Perform all post-change validation tasks making sure all network devices are present and healthy on the new path
  • Creates Visio diagrams of the building/closet network design
  • Creates IP addressing assignments if new IPs are required
  • Turn up new routers and switches on the network
  • Tests and turns up newly installed Ethernet and Managed Broadband circuits
  • Works with the Provisioning team to schedule trouble visits with the LEC when new circuits fail
  • Ensures all documentation is updated with post change information
  • Wipes the configurations from the old routers and switches
  • Acts as day 1 support for trouble issues
  • Experience level: Experienced
  • Minimum 7 years of experience
  • Education: Bachelors (required)
  • Network Engineer

  • CCNP
