UX Writer III

job summary:
We're looking for a strong writer to join the UX team for the Google App and Discover. The role requires someone who can work with a cross-functional team to drive clear, engaging content design across complex product experiences, ensuring tactical execution of cohesive product narratives across all digital touch points within the product. In this role, you'll also be part of a larger team of UX writers that cover Google's core consumer products, including Search, Assistant, and News.

Additonal Responsibilities

  • Develop and capture product-specific guidelines for tone, style, and usage as needed, based on existing Google-wide standards
  • Work with localization to ensure timely and high quality translations
Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree and 5 years of relevant work experience; or in lieu of degree, 7+years relevant work experience.
  • Advanced editing, writing, and project management skills for a broad range of audiences, including but not limited to UX writing
  • Experience in leading, collaborating and influencing, and working closely with Engineering, Design, and Product Management teams.
  • Proven ability to take the initiative and see complex projects through to completion with minimal direction.
  • Able to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Comfort level with ambiguity
  • Familiarity with localization practices and issues, including the ability to spot potential translation issues and the kinds of information translators need about a particular string to translate it effectively.
  • Portfolio of UX-focused writing samples and style guidelines.
Nice to have

  • Basic knowledge of a few typical design tools like InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or Sketch; for example, for editing text in mocks or preparing screenshots.
  • Working knowledge of critical business or technical concepts related to a product area, such as in-depth knowledge of legal, marketing, or other factors that impact a product's development

responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers from needs assessment to implementation, providing content design expertise and leadership to help shape strategy, testing, and feature launches
  • Write clear, concise, user-focused UI text that adheres to Google UX writing guidelines and best practices, as well as any relevant product-specific style guides
  • Manage and execute on multiple projects and requests at a time, prioritizing effectively and in alignment with partners
