job summary:
Position Description

The YouTube TV & Media Solutions (TVMS) team runs operations for YouTube TV, YouTube Originals, and other YouTube initiatives. Its Partner Engineering team is focused on technical solutions to operational problems. As a Technical Writer, you will revamp the documentation of our tools, exposed internally and externally to YouTube partners. These documents will range from team playbooks, project technical documentation, internal team processes, and partner help centers. Your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, writing process documents that include technical steps, and/or updating existing documents. These documents communicate complex information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon.

You will also collaborate with the various sub-teams to ensure that creating and maintaining documentation is part of their workflows and processes and help educate them on best practices.

Additional responsibilities

  • Edit documents written by others; coach teams to improve their writing skills.
Required qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience (3 years of writing developer guides).
  • At least 1 years experience working with engineering and product management teams as part of the software development process.
  • Experience reading and understanding source code written in Python
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and Markdown.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed.
  • strong collaboration and project management skills.
  • Understand highly technical concepts and create content that explain them clearly
  • Ability to learn new authoring tools
Preferred qualifications

  • Proven track record of researching and writing effective documentation for operations teams; experience writing for internal audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Location Preference

  • Bay Area (San Bruno, Mountain View) or New York

Skill/Experience/Education

Mandatory

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience (3 years of writing developer guides).

  • Manage numerous documentation projects with various levels of requirements, collaborate with the various TVMS teams to create content, and drive a culture of documentation in the teams.
  • Organize information in an easily discoverable, coherent, and intuitive fashion.
  • Learn complex technical information and create well-written technical documentation for team members with various technical abilities, from process manuals to code documentation.
