Medical Billing Specialist

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide support for accounting and/or finance staff as needed. Duties may include data entry, report generation and distribution, and special projects as assigned. Position may also work with accounts payable/receivables. Tasks included may be compiling, classifying, recording, verifying and maintaining data and payments to accounts payable and receivable records.

Responsibilities

  • Enter billing charges for the previous day (includes putting account numbers on encounter form)
  • Coding billing charges with modifiers
  • Follow up with clinicians for missing encounter forms
  • Tracking daily number of visits for Child, CAL, Groups and Adults
  • Registering new patients and re registering current patients
  • Clearing out the tasks on work lists in PAI Entering missing diagnosis codes for patients
  • Verifying insurance and Copays for new patients/current patients
  • Contacting insurance companies for additional visits
  • Ordering office supplies from Staples Ordering Toner from Xerox Ordering Bottle water from Poland Springs
  • Covering the front desk (checking patients in and out, scheduling next appointments, rescheduling cancelled appointments, notifying clinicians of cancelled appointments, answering phones, giving patients Medicaid transportation, transportation close out and submitting metro cards reimbursements.
  • Call for repair for Xerox machines and card embosser
  • Submitting tickets for telephone changes for new staff, interns and externs
  • Submitting tickets for computer issues Registering PSO accounts from Revenue Integrity Operations
  • Responding to questions from Patient Financial Services re questions about patient insurance Updating and preparing Staff Meeting Attendance List
  • Updating Clinic Telephone List Helping staff with computer/software issues
  • Assigning mailboxes for new staff

Qualifications

  • Ability to perform the tasks as described
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school with courses in accounting, finance or business highly desirable. Computer proficiency with experience in Excel and Word required.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and phone skills.
