Assistant Controller

job summary:
We are looking for an experienced accountant to aid our VP of Finance and Controller with workload. The successful candidate will have relevant work experience in a small to mid-sized manufacturing/assembly environment. This person will provide leadership to our accountant staff and provide support as needed to our executives with company financial planning and ensuring the company accounting procedures and reporting processes conform to generally accepted accounting principles. The person in this role will be responsible for tangential functions as well as certain general accounting activities, analysis and reporting. The right candidate will possess a commitment to timeliness, accuracy, teamwork and accountability, and will possess the ability to effectively interact with numerous disciplines, customers, and vendors. This person will have primary day-to-day responsibility for some staff as well as be expected to provide input, research tool creation, and provide recommendations for improved reporting and processes within the finance department.

responsibilities:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provide documentation and support for accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts

- Advise VP of Finance and the Controller of department needs and provide appropriate solutions

- Support accounting executive with needs for financial forecasting, budgets and reporting

- Provide recommendations to strategically improve accounting performance

- Ensure that effective internal controls are in place to ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rule for financial and tax reporting

- Manage various projects and deadlines with an acute attention to detail; timeliness, organization, accuracy and efficiency are critical

- Interact with executives and the advisory team-understand how to effectively and efficiently communicate a financial message in non-financial terms

- Manage journal entries, GL balancing and high transaction volume bank reconciliations

- Support monthly commission report process

- Assist in the annual financial audit

- Financial statement preparation, footnote preparation

- Month-end close: supervision and review of work performed by senior and staff accountants

- Creation and updating of Accounting and Finance policies and procedures

- Knowledge of and experience in multiple state sales and use tax

- Participate in project team environment to implement process improvements

- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects as required by senior management

 
qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment with a history of progressively more responsible financial leadership roles

- Must have hands on experience is the areas referenced under Duties & Responsibilities

- Meaningful experience within product development based on proprietary software and hardware distributed in a regulated growth environment

- Tenure with companies with sales revenues of at least $50mm, preferable >$100mm

- Experience with Wells Fargo is a plus

- Experience with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) is strongly preferred

- Expertise in all Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel)

- Highly advanced Excel skills are required
