Senior Compensation Analyst

job summary:
The Senior Compensation Analyst handles job design and analysis as well as compensation program design, development and administration to support business objectives, compliance, employer brand effectiveness and talent acquisition and retention.

Goals & Objectives:

  • Conduct research, analysis and modeling to support design of competitive and motivational compensation programs that meet business needs and align with corporate goals and strategies, such as sales commission and bonus programs.
  • Administrate, communicate and implement compensation programs, applying consistent, effective controls, utilization analysis, client support and timely payment execution.
  • Create high quality job descriptions that incorporate consistent, relevant, and sustainable role design and support compliance, communication and organizational performance objectives.
  • Develop and implement communication and training programs on compensation topics for managers to promote understanding and effective utilization of programs. Create similar programs for non-managers.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support design and implementation of major compensation-related initiatives, linking programs to overall compensation philosophy and corporate culture.
  • Administer compensation initiatives, annual focal planning, bonus and incentive plans, and scheduled rate adjustments for all employees.
  • Support employment-related programs and initiatives, including equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and inclusion efforts through job design, classification, compensation analysis and reporting.
  • Create job descriptions based on organizational need. Administrate and manage job description and classification system and related database; maintain job levels and families; compile market data and establish pay parameters for newly-developed and revised roles.
  • Regularly audit FLSA status, physical requirements and ADA-related content of existing positions. Perform periodic review and update of job descriptions to incorporate developments in industry standards, compensation and alignment with operational requirements.
  • Support role evaluation related to restructuring, merger, acquisition, and growth planning; provide development of transition plans and alignment of compensation programs.
  • Perform compensation analysis, evaluate prevailing rates in similar organizations and industries, and establish competitive rates designed to attract, retain, and motivate employees.
  • Analyze company compensation policies and practices for effectiveness, relevance, consistency with industry/market practices, administrative design and value proposition.
  • Recommend compensation adjustments utilizing knowledge of prevailing rates, types of wage incentive systems, and special compensation programs for professional, technical, sales, operational, supervisory, managerial, and executive roles.
  • Engage in active consulting, support, and collaboration with HRIS, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, Payroll and Consulting groups to ensure alignment, consistency, and quality outcomes.
  • Partner with the Finance and Legal teams as needed with respect to regulatory, accounting and tax requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements relating to minimum wage and overtime pay, collective bargaining agreement terms, and consistency with administrative policies and practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements relevant to compensation and EOE/AAP practices.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education, Experience & Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, or related field such as Business, Psychology, Sociology, or Management
  • 5+ years of relevant practitioner experience administrating and managing compensation and job data and programs.
  • CCP, GRP or related professional certifications or credentials preferred
  • Experience with the Hay job leveling methodology preferred.
  • Familiarity with transportation/logistics industry preferred.
Key Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Advanced understanding of compensation program design, including incentive, variable, and executive compensation practices and requirements.
  • Detailed understanding of the concepts of job design, including sustainability, career pathing, and regulatory considerations (ADA, etc.).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products at the following levels:

    • Word, Outlook, PowerPoint: Intermediate proficiency required
    • Excel: Advanced proficiency required
  • High level of competency with HR systems and reporting. Strong knowledge of database structures, methods of connectivity, queries, joins, and data transformation.
  • Proven ability to engage and influence all levels of the organization, and to establish credibility and respect of employees, peers, managers, and leaders.
  • Ability to properly handle, communicate, and effectively manage confidential and sensitive information.
