Associate General Counsel

job summary:
We are seeking a highly-motivated, versatile healthcare Attorney to become a critical member of a business-oriented legal department. Under the general supervision of the Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs, the Associate General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance to the Compliance Department as well as various business units regarding federal and state laws and regulations applicable to managed vision care.

responsibilities:
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Primary counsel to Compliance Department on legal requirements applicable to managed vision care business
  • Support Government Relations function, by engaging lobbyists, supporting advocacy initiatives and analyzing, interpreting, and communicating requirements of newly enacted laws and regulations
  • Primary counsel to the Privacy and Security Officers on HIPAA privacy and security requirements
  • Research and interpret laws and provide actionable advice and counsel on how to meet these requirements
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of managed care contracts, including contracts with health plans, health care providers, and third party vendors
  • Monitor and advise operational units on changes in Medicare Advantage, Medicaid Managed Care, and state health insurance laws and regulations
  • Deliver practical, business-oriented advice with a focus on meeting company's goals in a legally compliant manner
  • Prepare and file, or oversee filing of managed care and health insurance licenses and registrations, including hold company act filings
  • Support the company's fraud, waste, and abuse initiatives and training, including active support of the SIU team
  • Assist in resolving commercial disputes and overseeing litigation as appropriate
  • Act as a strategic partner on matters of importance to the company by providing thoughtful legal advice
  • Monitor changes in law and regulation that apply to the vision managed care business
  • Advise company on data privacy and security requirements, including HIPAA
  • Handle other duties as assigned
 
qualifications:
Qualifications:

Experience:

At least ten years' experience, with a mix of law firm and in-house

Deep knowledge and experience advising clients on managed care matters\

-Knowledge of Medicare Advantage and Medicaid Managed Care

-Knowledge of ERISA and state health insurance laws and regulations

-Adept at multi-tasking; embraces a fast-paced and dynamic environment

-Strong leadership presence

-Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization

-Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively

-Proven ability to establish priorities and multi-task

-Manage multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail and deadlines

-Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment

Education:

Law degree from an accredited law school and active license and admitted to state bar
