Collections Specialist

Company in New Bedford looking for a Collections Specialist!

Contract Assignment, estimated to last 2-4 months, potentially longer .



Contacts delinquent customers in order to secure payment, stall migration, reduce loss, minimize expense and stabilize any portfolio deterioration. This position will support the servicing of multiple Financial Institutions (including banks and credit unions).

Handle routine and inbound and outbound calls to delinquent customers from assigned queue and document collection efforts. Non-routine calls require guidance from a Senior Portfolio Representative or manager.

Minimize delinquency of a specifically assigned portfolio segment and meet month-end deadlines.

Negotiate payment arrangements to bring accounts current during later stage delinquency (1-2 payments behind) and generate follow-up letters to customers.

The ability to meet a target call volume set by the manager.

Provide exemplary service to customers in the processing of payments and charges.

Resolve complex problems with limited guidance. Escalate advanced issues to a Senior Portfolio Representative or manager for resolution.

Record factual contact information and payment arrangements.

Responsible for light skip tracing.

Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction with member relationship interaction and strive to quantify and minimize the financial institution's risk of loss.

Ensure confidentiality within all areas of responsibility.

Positively promotes the company, its services and products in various capacities as may be required including: meetings, conferences, community events, fund raising or public relations or other as they may occur.

Successfully complete all company required and job specific training.

Follows all procedures pertaining to the financial institution's policies of BSA, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC. Attend training when available, and to keep abreast of all information regarding changes and updates. Reporting to Management any acts of disregard to these policies.

Perform additional duties as required.


Minimum of a high school diploma is required with some college preferred.

One to three years banking experience preferred plus one to two years collection experience required.

Some exposure to indirect vehicle secured portfolio helpful.

Basic math and computer skills are required.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work with limited supervision.
