Senior Project Accountant

The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for being the main financial liaison for project managers regarding any activity associated to the profitability of construction projects. Reporting directly to the Regional Controller with a dotted line report to the CFO the Project Accountant will support various areas of the business including operations, project management, & finance. Candidates must be independent, analytical and highly motivated with strong technical and people skills.

Essential Job Duties

  • Prepare monthly project requisitions ensuring necessary documentation and backup.
  • Verify prior month project-to-date totals with current month opening balance.
  • Assist project management team with ensuring timely receipt of project documentation including compliance documentation
  • Obtain & enter insurance certificates and bonds requirements for projects and make necessary changes or updates as needed in the accounting system
  • Review contract documents, insurance and related documentation
  • Verify and input vendor and subcontractor's invoices including communicating with vendors and subcontractors with invoices and payments' status.
  • Process subcontractor payments & manage subcontractor accounts.
  • Enter change orders & work orders in the accounting system.
  • Review monthly project cash flow including compiling all support documentation for management review
  • Prepare project forecast and capture project costs to communicate to project managers
  • Prepare monthly progress billing including AIA or T&M billings vs. job cost reconciliations
  • Prepare case analyses for multiple on-going projects including monthly operating cost report, job cost report, & update monthly job status reports
  • Prepare various Ad-Hoc reports for monthly upper management review
  • Assist controller with various duties as assigned including audit preparation and tax workpapers.
Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, MBA or CPA is a plus
  • 5 years of prior project accounting experience within the construction industry required
  • Extensive knowledge of various construction accounting functions including WIP reporting, AIA/T&M Billing, & Job Costing required
  • Strong organization skills and ability to effectively coordinate multiple functions and independently achieve objectives
  • Possesses Advanced MS Office skills including Excel, experience with construction specific ERP systems is highly desired (i.e. - Timberline, Spectrum, Viewpoint, etc.)
