Our client, a not-for profit organization based in the Greater Philadelphia area is seeking a CFO to join their organization. The CFO reports to the president and CEO and serves as an integral member of the Executive Team, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be responsible for the financial strategy of the organization, including oversight of all accounting and finance functions, legal, and risk management. This role will act as the liaison with the CEO and the Board on all financial matters and serve as the staff liaison to the Audit and Investment Committee.

responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain and establish an appropriate system of internal controls and accounting standards and policies.
  • Ensure annual development of a comprehensive well-vetted operating budget that can achieve strategic targets and present financial metrics both internally and externally.
  • Provide financial and budgetary support to the organization's Executive Team including development of internal financials and reporting capabilities.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Improve administrative and operational accounting services such as treasury management, grants payment processing, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing.
  • Oversee risk assessment and management and advise the CEO and President and Board of Directors about issues or concerns.
  • Oversee all legal activities of the organization, internal compliance of contract policies, and work with outside counsel.
  • Responsible for business and risk insurance including procurement, monitoring and management.
  • Primary contact for the organization's investment firm, oversight of the investment policy and communication with the Board's Audit and Investment Committee as it relates to the investment portfolio.
  • Remain current on audit best practices as well as state, federal and local laws regarding company operations.
  • Support the CEO by providing staff support and guidance for the board's Audit and Investment Committee.
  • Manage cash flow and develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
  • Develop, implement and oversee financial forecasting models for all revenue streams and associated costs.
  • Represent the organization externally, as necessary, particularly in banking and lease negotiations.
  • Work and direct the Controller, manage and oversee all financial and business planning activities, including:
  • An accounting system that provides the organization with quick access to financial information and enables strategic budgeting revenue generation.
  • Direct, administer, review and analyze financial plans and reports.
  • Oversee business policies and accounting best practices.
  • Lead and support the organizational budgeting process.
  • Oversee reporting and monitoring of organizational financial metrics.
  • Provide overall financial oversight and monitoring.
  • Work with the Vice President, Operations on the management of procedures related to our corporate insurance policies.
  • Partner with the Vice President, Operations to ensure all organization-wide policies are in compliance with nonprofit regulations and legal requirements.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an annual strategic plan and budget for the finance department and monitor performance goals against the plan.
  • Develop clear short-term and long-range plans for the finance team that are both realistic and challenging.

qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

The following are the minimum qualifications that an individual need in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field; Master's degree a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years progressively responsible experience in a senior management (CFO or VP of Finance) role ideally in a not-for profit organization or related entrepreneurial for-profit with an operating budget of at least $40 million to $200million. Health Care industry ++ or related industry.
  • Extensive working knowledge and experience in Finance.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise.
  • Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask.
  • Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.
  • Self-reliant, good problem solver, results oriented.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance initiatives.
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, the board of directors, and staff.
