Accounting Manager

job summary:
A pre-IPO biotech company is looking for an enthusiastic accounting manager. The candidate will have a high sense of urgency, outstanding time management skills, and displays exceptional ability to collaborate with all colleagues and organizational departments. This candidate will own the month-end close process and is responsible for recording most transactions, including clinical, manufacturing and non-clinical accruals. This position is a sole contributor but works closely with accounts payable staff The candidate will supervise up to four accounting staff and will report to the Controller.

Responsibilities

  • Own the daily operations of the accounting department by recording and reconciling most transactions
  • Prepare detailed accounting for clinical and non-clinical accruals, and contract manufacturing
  • Collaborate with accounts payable to ensure proper account coding, cutoff and timely payments
  • Work with two accounting contractors to coordinate the month-end close activities
  • Improve month-end close process and timing by supporting the evaluation, development, and implementation of controls and systems automation
  • Document accounting narratives in accordance with US GAAP
  • Partner with the Controller to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Assist in financial statement analysis, including working with the Director of FP&A and Controller on budget versus actual explanations
  • Work directly with auditors on all accounting entries and reconciliations
  • Oversee preparation of various tax filings requirements, including Delaware franchise tax, sales use tax and property tax
  • Other duties as assigned with a laser focus on career building experiences
Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting/finance
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, and work under pressure
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Experience of 4+ years in operational accounting, including supervisory assignments
  • Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry and Big Four experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting and reporting requirements
  • Outstanding ability to communicate complex information (written and verbal) quickly
  • Proficient using NetSuite, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office Suite - advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Excellent team work and collaboration skills
