Accounting Manager

A Northern California pharmaceutical and consumer products company is seeking an Accounting Manager for their Redwood City office.

The Accounting Manager must have at least 5+ years of supervisory experience and great communication skills.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct all financial related activities with the upmost confidentiality and security to protect the organization
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Ensure timely reporting of all monthly financial information
  • Ensure monthly and quarterly bank compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Prepare financial statements and reporting tools for Executive Management and parent company
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports when necessary to support executive management
  • Assist the Director of Finance in the daily banking requirements
  • Oversee payroll and payroll related functions
  • Supervise compilation of reports to file 1099s and corporate income tax returns
  • Work with the Director of Finance to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
  • Co-ordinate the annual independent audit including preparing financial statements which are audited
  • Lead and interface with external auditors at the year-end and interim audits
  • Maintain audit trails, government compliance (sales tax and business licenses), and ad hoc analysis as considered necessary by corporate financial management
  • Support budget and forecasting activities
  • Meet accounting financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results for the company against the budget, flagging items for follow-up and highlighting significant developments to Executive management when necessary
  • Confirm financial status by monitoring revenue and expenses; coordinate the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data; prepare special reports
  • Maintain the fixed asset inventory system by supervising the recording of all items in the inventory, maintaining pertinent records and ensuring adequate treatment of fixed asset acquisitions and retirements
  • Maintain accounting controls by establishing a chart of accounts; define accounting policies and procedures
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Ensure the accuracy of data and adherence of the system to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Audit departmental accounting data, identify and correct errors, identify and compute accruals, apply accounting principles to transactions and recommend revisions in departmental accounting procedures to ensure conformance with applicable statues, laws, and General Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues
  • Maintains financial security by establishing internal controls
  • Respond to inquiries from the Director of Finance and other finance and company-wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
  • Assist in all areas of operation as requested by management
  • Support Director of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities (if you have supervisory responsibilities) in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, directing work and appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in; business, accounting or bookkeeping
  • 5 years' experience in accounting with an academic background in either finance, accounting or business management
  • Previous management experience in accounting or finance
  • Ability to multitask on various daily duties and ad-hoc assignments
  • Well organized so can effectively prioritize workflow and improve period-end close results
  • Expert in both written and verbal communications in English language
  • Knowledge and comfort in use of modules in a moderately complex computer system/financial application(Sage MAS 500, SAP) or experience with Great Plains or Solomon accounting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Solid understanding of GAAP (matching, conservatism, materiality, temporary and permanent accounts, debits, credits, sections of the financial statements, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and to complete duties with minimal supervision
  • Able to shift priorities considered necessary to accomplish prioritized tasks in a high-paced, results orientated environment
  • Hands-on mentality to complete tasks
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook email applications
