Import Coordinator

job summary:




To support our vision of contributing to society by developing and providing environmentally friendly leading-edge materials, technologies, products, and services. The Product Coordinator is responsible for coordinating timely shipment of customer orders, including processing import documents; communicating with suppliers, logistics companies, and sales offices; and tracking shipments.



















  • Performs administrative duties in support of activities related to the ordering, shipping, delivery, and sale of products
  • Enters import documents and updated shipping data for customer orders; distributes paperwork
  • Confirms accuracy of invoices, POs, and charges related to the shipment of products
  • Creates and maintains records (i.e. "traffic files") of import documents for open orders and shipments
  • Ensures broker invoices are correctly coded and submits internally for payment
  • Audits customs entry form submitted by the broker to confirm the correct information was filed with Customs; enters this data in the system
  • Communicates with shipping vendors regarding: open orders and shipments, including:

    • Provides documents (e.g. invoice number, traffic number, Bill of Lading) needed for shipment release and/or physical possession
    • Verifies shipment status and ensures shipping instructions are followed
  • Handles routine questions and problems and maintains open communication with other departments throughout the shipping/delivery cycle
  • Researches U.S. tariff classifications for new and updated products, under management supervision
  • Enters and submits Customs-required report (e.g. 10+2 Importer Security Filing (ISF)) for ocean shipments to the U.S.
  • Determines unique import license information for steel products
  • Assists with various projects and/or assignments as directed by office management








Secondary Job Functions:









  • Prepares monthly compliance report (i.e. ISF reports)
  • Participates in other department-related projects, including:

    • Assists management with completion NAFTA forms (e.g. COO, AALA, CAFÉ, TVA, PCC)
    • Gathers shipping vendor data for benchmarking purposes
    • Review outstanding broker invoices to ensure timely payment


















  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or 1-2 years of related experience (required)
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook (required)
  • Experience using ERP software in manufacturing and/or trading company environment (preferred)
