job summary:




Ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP of all financial reports whether internal or external. Builds operational accounting team and enforces processes and policies to address the organization's current needs. Primary contact for external financial auditors (both governmental and the organization's external financial audit).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary role is to ensure transactional accounting is of high quality to produce GAAP-compliant financial statements that are of use to management in operating the business and in reporting to external and regulatory authorities.
  • Responsible for transactional accounting for each of the organization's legal entities, accounts payable, payroll, and cash management.
  • Responsible for enforcing the organization's policies with respect to cash disbursements and for proper coding of disbursements based on the legal entity structure, chart of accounts, and regulatory reporting.
  • Hiring, supervision, and development of accounting staff, including Assistant Controller, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and legal entity accountants.
  • Primary interface to external auditors and tax compliance; ensures audit adjustments are minimized.
  • Preparation of financial reports for senior management, regional directors, program management, department management, Board of Directors, and governmental authorities.
  • Implementation of policies, processes, and systems to support the organization and its growth.
  • Maintain monthly close schedule and ensure financial reports are prepared on a timely basis.
  • Owns accounting system and responsible for chart of accounts and structures that facilitate reporting.
  • Primary interface to banks for daily operations and treasury management services.
REQUIREMENTS

  • Holds 8 to 10 years of progressive career experience.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Requires demonstrated understanding and experience with financial reporting, revenue cycle management, accounting, accounts payable, treasury, audit, tax, payroll, cost accounting, and information technology.
  • Experience in implementation of accounting systems.
  • Fosters continuous quality improvement.
  • Participates in organization-wide performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains compliance with all laws and applicable regulatory requirements. Acts promptly to comply with required changes.
  • CPA required.
  • Advanced in MS Excel.
  • Other personal qualities:
