Successful growth larger mid-size consumer products company in the Tri-Valley is currently seeking an AP Accountant/Lead for their AP and Accounting team. This position will help lead and be a go to person for the mid-size AP processing team. Position will support the AP Manager and will have ample opportunity to grow into a Supervisor role. Qualified candidates will have 5-8+ years of AP experience. SAP a must.

The Opportunity

The AP Accountant is responsible for leading the Accounts Payable (AP) Team. The role also includes processing and posting incoming invoices in accordance with established policies and procedures. The AP Accountant is an individual contributor and reports to the AP Manager.


  • Monitor, distribute and review the work of the AP Team, including management of the Parked not Posted and Aging reports
  • Match invoices received to applicable purchase orders accurately and timely
  • Input and process non-purchase order invoices accurately and timely
  • Ensure invoices are accurately coded and have the appropriate approval levels in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Process, match and prepare checks, ACH payments and wires for distribution
  • Balance vendor statements
  • Monitor, review, and approve PCard / VCard transactions
  • Responsible for vendor maintenance, including creation and deletion
  • Ensure the AP Team complies with internal control requirements and corporate policies and update/create said documents
  • Assist in Month, Quarter, and Year-End AP activities and requirements
  • Improve and manage key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Create more efficient methods or procedures to enhance AP processes
  • Perform annual 1099 data maintenance, verification and preparation
  • Build solid relationships across all departments at various staff levels
  • Provide customer service, research and training to both internal and external business partners regarding AP policies and procedures
  • Prepare and give advice on AP staff budgets, team organization and work allocation
  • Act as a coach and mentor to the AP Specialist team members, provide performance feedback and contribute to the team's individual development plans.
  • Cross train and support team members
  • Provide backup to the Travel and Entertainment (T&E) team with managing the relationship between American Express, the Company and Company employees including:

    1. Employee qualifications, applications and cancellations for the program, on an as needed basis
    2. Understand the travel and entertainment policy, monitor spending against the policy and highlight issues or concerns for resolution with cardholders
  • Assist/backup the T&E Team in the performance of their duties, including:

    1. Manage the relationship between Concur and American Express
    2. Deployment and maintenance of the Concur tool, as needed
    3. Training of internal business users within the Concur tool
    4. Report on travel and expense spending, including development of best in class reports that monitor spending by employee, cost center, activity and/or program
  • Perform any special projects as required

  • Must have minimum of 5 years of related work experience
  • Advanced user of MS Excel
  • Experience with SAP required
  • Experience in Concur preferred
  • Experience in Coupa or like system preferred
  • Working ability to delegate duties, tasks, reports, and payment proposals on a timely basis
  • Proficient in time management and workload efficiency skills
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and collaboration skills
