Senior Property Accountant

job summary:
Senior Property Accountant Division: Accounting

Scope of Responsibilities:

- Manage a portfolio of institutional client properties and any special or additional reporting requirements for the client or the lender.

- Analyzing and reviewing budget variance reports with client in order to make recommendation and proposals regarding asset.

- Act as primary contact for the client by answering questions, fulfilling requests for variance analysis, owner requested payments and special projects.

- Prepares and enters journal entries for month end close not limited to accruals, amortization, capitalization and true up entries.

- Researches any outstanding issues and rectifies before closing out the books for month end.

- Researches and reconciles bank accounts.

- Preparation of ACH and wires when necessary in order to ensure proper management of client's funds.

- Prepare and reconcile balance sheet account schedules.

- Calculate management fees, owner's distributions, funding requests, and cash analysis vs. income statements.

- Reviews accounts payable invoices and checks for accuracy, researching and resolving any discrepancies.

- Selects weekly payables

- Assist with year-end audits by preparing work papers, recording audit entries and verifying financials; preparing tax preparation worksheets; and coordinating audit requests between internal departments and the auditor.

- Provides mentoring and one on one training to new Staff Accountants.

- Review accounts receivable for reasonableness and ensures reporting accuracy. - Review monthly balance sheet and income statement to ensure accuracy.

- Key contributor to the analysis and variance explanations for the financial statements.

- Communicate with on-site staff to resolve Yardi issues and provide accounting support.

- Direct responsibility for preparing audit schedules and coordinating audit requests for compliance and for any special investigations.

- Compiles data and analysis for recommendations in the preparation of annual budget and review of final budget.

- Complies with Company policies and procedures, accounting policies and procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.

- Other duties as assigned.

Specific Knowledge and Skills:

- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products such as Excel, Word, and Outlook

- Intermediate to advanced skill set in Excel

- Recent experience with Yardi, MRI, Great Plains, MAS 90/200, MSI or AMSI

- Experience in reading, interpreting, and analyzing financial statements

- Ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

- Capable of working independently

- Ability to problem solve and to set and achieve goals

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Team player with the ability to multitask with efficiency and accuracy

- Accuracy and strong attention to detail

- Strong organizational and time-management skills

- Must be willing to adapt in a diversified team environment

Education and Work Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.

- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in accounting and financial statement preparation.

- Real estate accounting experience preferred

- CPA a plus
