Senior Accountant

job summary:
Review and post journal entries from staff accountants to ensure accuracy

Prepare cost of sales entries

Perform variance/flux analysis

Document and monitor internal controls in accordance with SOX 404

Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes

Answers accounting and financial questions of division presidents by researching and interpreting data

Prepare monthly financial statements

Mentor junior team members

May have responsibility for land accounting

Enter/update budgets for land jobs into Newstar

Attend monthly land budget meetings and adjust budgets, as necessary

Update and review budgets to approve purchase orders

Researches invoice discrepancies with Land Coordinator and Land Manager

Knowledge/Skills and Experience:

Ability to think critically, manage and prioritize work load.

Knowledge of GAAP.

Ability to analyze problems and recommend solutions.

Highly detailed and organized.

Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA is a plus.

4 to 6 years of accounting experience.

Residential homebuilding / construction accounting experience preferred.

Knowledge of NewStar is a plus.

Strong excel /MS Office skills.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Train junior team members

Plan, assign, and direct work of junior team members

Working Conditions:

Works in a normal office environment. does not require physical activity other than that typically utilized in suck a setting, work with standard office equipment (susch as phone, fax, and personal computer). May require lifting up to 25 lbs.
