Compliance Specialist

job summary:
Position Description *Title: Compliance Specialist

The US export compliance team focuses on US export controls and trade sanctions compliance. Our team is responsible for analyzing and interpreting legal regulations and statutes, advising clients, and submitting government filings. The ideal candidate will have a lead role in preparing materials for the filing of deemed-export license applications, including engaging and coordinating with internal groups, communicating with recruiters and candidates to gather information, and driving the management of filed and issued licenses. Candidates must have exceptional attention to detail and project management skills, be a confident and polished communicator and writer and possess a technical aptitude. Candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting issues, documenting work, and moving issues and resolutions forward at a steady pace. The candidate will also be responsible for reviewing soft-hits of sanctioned-party screenings against different government lists, including those maintained by the U.S. Depts. of Treasury and Commerce. This will involve meticulous research to determine next steps to be taken on the resolution of these soft-hits.

Top Daily Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing soft hits to on screening platforms and deciding on next steps
  • Managing deemed export license applications and existing licenses.
  • Reviewing export control questionnaires from employees and visitors and whitelisting individuals to access restricted projects and/or sites.
  • Running a due diligence process that involves checking a third party system on potential partners.
  • Helping with general case management administration and organization of key documents.
  • Assisting with collection of relevant materials to file license applications.
  • Coordinating with external legal counsel.
Requirements:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects concurrently.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Experience in using technology and the Internet to improve work efficiency.
Skill/Experience/Education

Mandatory

  • BS/BA Degree
  • Manager is open to area of study
  • 1+ years work experience as a project coordinator, preferably export compliance
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets (whether it be Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel)
  • Must be able to create pivot tables and perform v-look ups)
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written for all levels
  • Keen eye for detail Self starter Deadline driven Extremely organized
Desired

  • Trade compliance knowledge or experience
  • Deemed-export licensing knowledge or experience
  • Metrics generation
  • Working knowledge of G Suite
