Job Description:

We are seeking a full-time, experienced Manager for the corporate accounting group. The Manager will ensure that the Company's financial statements are prepared in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. This role will report directly to the Controller and responsibilities include researching and applying technical accounting standards, managing the consolidation and management reporting of the monthly financial statements and providing accurate and timely information for the Company's external audit process. The successful candidate will provide leadership for reporting and technical accounting functions. This is a high visibility role, interacting with senior leadership across accounting, finance, and operations.

The candidate must be very flexible and highly committed to quality, customer service, teamwork and supporting Firm and department goals in a fast-paced environment. We are seeking a professional with solid communication, leadership, technology, organizational and analytical skills.

Technical Accounting Research

  • Research technical accounting issues, recommend appropriate accounting treatment and document results
  • Develop and maintain appropriate white paper reference materials for both training and audit support purposes
  • Evaluate and implement new accounting pronouncements and train individuals affected
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles
Accounting Close Process

  • Overall responsibility for significant and/or non-recurring complex transaction for proper accounting treatment and period posting
  • Manage and review accounting entries for various accounts, including debt, equity (i.e. stocks and options), income taxes, acquisition related accounts and certain other liability accounts
  • Advise on and oversee accounting treatment for key revenue contracts - provide assistance and ensure accounting conclusions are properly documented and updated as appropriate in accordance with ASC 606
  • Review related account reconciliations for areas of responsibility and assist in resolving discrepancies
  • Ensure that accounting entries and reconciliations are prepared timely, in accordance with the monthly closing calendar - identify opportunities for close acceleration
Management and External Reporting

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the Company's financial statements and related monthly management reporting, including the preparation of monthly revenue, expenditure and balance sheet trending and variance analysis
  • Manage the system administration of Xcelerate, an excel and web-based application for financial reporting. Develop quick win opportunities for accelerating financial statement preparation while maintaining proper controls
  • Manage the preparation of annual financial statements ensuring all applicable disclosures have been incorporated, and perform review of detailed workpapers to support disclosures
  • Coordinate preparation of quarterly and annual support for audit purposes; collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance
  • Assist with the compilation of annual budgets
Projects and Processes

  • Evaluate performance of staff by establishing objectives and providing constructive feedback on a regular basis
  • Provide continued focus on improving the overall efficiency of department activities by streamlining systems and processes
  • Participate in strategic financial projects including upgrades/phase-two implementation of ERP system
  • Work on special projects and ad hoc reports as requested by upper management
  • Contribute to the organization in a professional manner with a positive attitude
 
qualifications:
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA and public accounting experience a must, Big 4 experience highly preferred
  • 6-10+ years general accounting experience (emphasis on technical accounting and reporting) with over five years at the management/supervisory level
  • Experience and ability to analyze and implement new accounting standards a must
  • Exposure to larger ERP systems a plus. Exposure to systems development - including implementations, upgrades desirable
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel required
  • Strong managerial presence and professional image. Ability to initiate process improvements and multi-task
  • Experience in hiring and mentoring accounting personnel and involvement in organizational design or re-design to improve productivity
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong capacity to prioritize and complete varied tasks in a timely manner
  • Exceptional organizational skills, follow-up skills and attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work, think critically and solve problems
