POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility for a firm's practice rests with the Partners. The assignment of Managers to engagements enables Partners to serve a larger number of clients without undermining their effectiveness.

  1. Manager should be viewed as a Partner-in-training and therefore should be involved in virtually all of the areas for which Partners are responsible.
A Manager must have a complete knowledge of the firm's philosophy and be conversant with its reports, its letters relating to matters of policy, and its opinions on financial matters. They must maintain their expertise in current professional practice. Managers are the liaison between their Partner, the client, the audit staff, and the special service departments; they are generally responsible for all phases of an engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The primary responsibilities of a Manager are focused in the following 7 areas:

Audit, Accounting and Tax

  • Understand the purpose of accounting procedures based on level of service provided.
  • Prepare workpapers that are informative, indexed, cross-referenced and can easily be understood and explained.
  • Become proficient in the use of various accounting and tax software programs.
  • Become proficient in the preparation of various tax returns (individual, corporate and partnership)
  • Perform accounting procedures and/or tax applications in accordance with firm standards and in an accurate, thorough and timely manner, including proposing journal entries to clients' general ledgers.
  • Understand clients' accounting systems.
  • Stay current on accounting and tax theory. Apply this knowledge to the engagement.
  • Understand and apply concepts of materiality and audit risk.
  • Understand the purpose of accounting and general ledger recordation procedures.
  • Formulate audit approach and tailor appropriate audit programs.
  • Review and/or prepare financial statements, footnotes, workpapers, tax returns, management letters, agreed-upon procedures, and other attestation engagements.
  • Demonstrate professional creativity in dealing with client matters and make constructive suggestions to improve client operations.
  • Effectively analyze client transactions and unusual situations.
  • Recognize and resolve potential and/or existing problems with appropriate research and consulting if necessary.
Project/Task Management

  • Accept responsibility for, and complete tasks assigned by W&D management in a timely fashion.

  • Make effective use of firm resources to complete a project, communicate and coordinate with firm schedules.
  • Manage multiple client projects at any given time.
  • Alert Managers and Partners responsible for engagements in a timely fashion of any issues, constraints, challenges and/or scheduling conflicts that may arise in completing the assigned tasks.
Engagement Lead/Management

  • Serve as the Engagement Lead on specific client accounts, taking responsibility for pre-engagement planning, execution, and final deliverable.
  • Develop a detailed engagement work plan, budgets and schedules. Monitor project status against the work plan and communicate schedule adjustments to Managers and/or Partners.
  • Develop a professional relationship with the client. Gain the respect and confidence of the client by consistently demonstrating superior client service, quality work products, and professional integrity.
  • Serve as a point-of-contact to the client. Ensure that the client is fully informed of engagement progress, logistics, and delivery dates.
  • Prepare, organize and maintain engagement work papers and files.
  • Manage audit and accounting process (to include resource allocation and budgeting, billing, and collection), submit requests to schedule staff, deliver work products on time and within scope, and communicate engagement status to management.
  • Communicate periodically with client following the completion of the engagement to ensure client satisfaction.
Staff Management and Development

  • Take responsibility for subordinates' activities and chargeability. Effectively delegate work to staff.
  • Provide regular performance feedback as well as deliver timely performance evaluations.
  • Develop subordinates' technical and industry skills and encourage growth.
  • Gain the respect and confidence of the team through effective client management, timely and accurate communication, and clear and concise team direction. Lead by example.
Personal and Professional Development

  • Continually develop technical skills and industry knowledge
  • Earn confidence, trust and respect from clients and colleagues.
  • Represent the firm in a positive and professional manner.

  • If requested and desired, identify and develop outside business contacts through social, charitable, and business organizations.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the scope of current engagements through identification of current client needs and target client requirements.
Recruitment

  • Network with individuals from other organizations in order to share ideas, collect information, and identify potential talent for the firm.
  • If requested, participate in both the experienced and college hiring recruiting process.
  • Maintain an active contact list to include previous employment contacts, college alumni, associations, etc.
  • If desired, establish and maintain a social presence in the community. Participate in industry, alumni, and community networking/charitable events of choice.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Delegate, direct and review the work of Supervisors, In-Charges, Staff Assistants and Interns.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/BA accounting required. Masters in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
  • CPA designation a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-7+ years' experience in public accounting preferred.
