Paralegal

job summary:
The job duties and responsibilities would focus on assisting in the overall management of claims, disputes, and investigations; drafting various documents; and assisting with other general corporate-related matters. The scope of this role would encompass the following:

Claims and Investigations

· Assist with claims and investigations by gathering documents, interviewing witnesses and drafting case / investigation summaries;

· Draft memos;

· Draft correspondence to opposing counsel, former employees or other third parties;

  • Respond to subpoenas;
  • Assist attorneys with witness preparation for testimony and responding to discovery requests;
  • Providing other support to attorneys with respect to claims and administrative proceedings or compliance investigations;
  • Manage service of process for all claims and track all case deadlines;
  • Demonstrate basic strategic thinking and initiative with case assignments.
Outside Vendor Management and Reporting

· Assist in preparing case budgets, and closely manage outside legal spend by liaising with outside counsel on compliance with budgets and work plans;

· Maintain electronic claims database by entering claims and investigations, uploading key documents, and entering status reports;

· Run reports in Serengeti claims management tool.

Other

  • Assist attorneys with the drafting of policies, procedures and training to ensure compliance with existing and contemplated federal / state / local laws and regulations;
  • Assist with the management of special projects identified each year;
  • Assist in preparing agreements (e.g., employment, consulting, severance and settlement agreements);
  • Work under the direction of an attorney to assess and resolve routine legal issues;
  • Work on other matters as requested.
To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:

· A minimum of three (3) years of paralegal experience (prior in-house experience with a corporate legal department is preferred);

· Proficient in Windows environment including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint;

  • Paralegal training and certification required, preferably from an ABA accredited institution;
  • Familiarity with a matter management/e-billing system;
  • Strong drafting abilities;
· Reliability, teamwork, professionalism, and the ability to multi-task are essential;

· Must be proactive with strong organizational and interpersonal skills;

· Ability to interact professionally with attorneys and support staff while maintaining a strong client service attitude;

· Strong sense of confidentiality and ability to exercise sound judgment.
