Senior Accountant

job summary:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for heading the Accounting Department and reporting directly to the CFO.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for handling the fundamental aspects of a firm's financial accounting, including financial statement preparation and reporting, recording financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, and completing various tax forms. Supervise the Accounting Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts; defining accounting policies and procedures.
  • Prepare accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with our established schedule and with input from the rest of the accounting department
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the CFO's attention
  • Review all inter-company transactions and generate invoices as necessary
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Delegate financial responsibilities to accounting team
  • Coordinate semi-annual audits and assist CFO with conducting audits
  • Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
  • Balances subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries.
  • Balances general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
  • Analyses and reports financial information to investors as needed
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Assist with budget preparations
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Supervise the accounting department staff and delegates responsibilities
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Prepare financial reports for taxes, regulatory agencies, and stockholders
  • Maintain accurate account balances and bank statements; monthly bank reconciliations
  • Manage general ledger and assist month-end/year-end close processes
  • Ensure compliance with all internal processes
  • Responsible for accounts receivables including issuing invoices to customers and ensure payments are received when due.
  • Record sales and payments
  • Provide information to external CPA firm as needed
  • Hire and train accounting staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum of ten years responsible accounting experience including financial statement preparation and reporting, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
  • Knowledge of SFAS Rules
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Prior experience in Business Management required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of an ERP system, preferably, NetSuite.
