Finance and accounting professionals are starting off the New Year with strong measures of confidence in the workforce, according to the Q4 2013 Randstad Professionals Finance and Accounting Employee Confidence Index. The Index, which measures overall confidence among finance and accounting workers, showed a significant boost in employees’ outlook about their ability to find a new job, with 59 percent of respondents feeling confident that they would be able to find new employment with ease, a 10 percent increase from the previous quarter.
From the Desk of Ursula Williams, EVP of Randstad Professionals, Finance and Accounting
While finance and accounting workers are increasingly confident in their ability to find new jobs, their views on the strength of the economy and the future of their current employers fell in Q4 2013. Almost a third (32%) believe the economy is getting weaker, rising 10 percentage points from the previous quarter, while nearly one-in-six employees (57 percent) are confident in the future of their employers, a 12 percentage point drop from the previous quarter.
Despite the drop in confidence levels, the hiring outlook for finance and accounting professionals appears to be very promising. In fact, according to a recent CareerBuilder survey, financial services occupations are likely to pick up in 2014. In a nationwide survey of financial services hiring managers and human resources professionals, 35 percent of financial services employers plan to increase the number of full-time employees in 2014, which is 11 points above the national average and up from 27 percent in 2013. “We expect to see strong demand for public accountants and accounting managers in the coming year. Employers are seeking well-rounded candidates who possess a mix of technical, soft and computer skills, along with industry certifications and experience,” Williams said.
