The nation’s healthcare workers are cautiously seeking new employment – yet confident in their ability to land jobs,  according to a new online survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Randstad Healthcare.
With healthcare among the nation’s fastest-growing industries, workers will be in high-demand for years to come. Factors such as an aging population, healthcare reform and technological advances are driving the need for caregivers.

Any Jobs Out There for Healthcare Workers?

Still, healthcare workers are uncertain about the current job market, most likely due to the latest economic headlines surrounding the potential fiscal cliff and a volatile stock market. Only 13 percent of healthcare workers surveyed in the third quarter believe there are more jobs available, down 11 percentage points from previous readings.

Furthermore, only 23 percent of healthcare workers are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months, down 14 percentage points from Q2 2012.

A Confident Workforce

Healthcare workers may be cautiously eyeing the job market, but they do report feeling more confident in their own ability to find jobs. More than half of healthcare works surveyed (55 percent) indicated they are confident they could find a job, up five percentage points from the previous quarter.

These positive readings are backed by a new study just released by Georgetown University’s Center on Education and Workforce stating that the nation’s overall number of healthcare workers will need to grow by nearly 30 percent by 2020 in order to meet the demand for healthcare – representing the biggest growth for any sector in the United States over the next 10 years.

Also, a majority of healthcare workers surveyed (68 percent) feel confident in the future of their company. This number rose by 10 percentage points from the previous quarter.

“Despite a slight decrease among a few of the confidence measures, the healthcare industry remains one of the fastest growing sectors,” said Steve McMahan, executive vice president of Randstad US, Professionals. “The reality is that healthcare jobs will be in high demand for many years to come.”
