We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our crew. In this role, you’ll be the bridge between our production floor and our financial statements. You won't just be crunching numbers in a vacuum; you’ll be on the floor, understanding how a sheet of fiberglass becomes a luxury vessel and ensuring every penny of that transformation is accounted for. Required Experience & Qualifications Education & Certification Bachelor’s Degree: Required in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CMA (Certified Management Accountant): Highly preferred. We value the specialized manufacturing focus this brings. Professional Background Years of Service: 3–5+ years of experience in Cost Accounting or Inventory Accounting. Industry Experience: Prior experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is required. Specific experience in marine, aerospace, or automotive manufacturing will move your resume to the top of the pile. The "WIP" Factor: Proven experience managing Work-in-Process (WIP) and long-cycle production projects (where builds take weeks or months, not hours). Technical Skills ERP Mastery: Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or industry-specific software like MarineCFO). Excel Guru: You should be comfortable with pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex financial modeling. Data Analysis: Experience using BI tools (Tableau, Power BI) to visualize cost trends and variances. Core Competencies Physical Auditing: Willingness to get your boots dirty. You’ll need to perform physical inventory counts in a shipyard environment (crawling into hulls or climbing around racks of engines). Communication: The ability to translate complex financial data into "plain English" for production managers and shop floor supervisors. Analytical Rigor: A natural "detective" mindset—when a margin drops by 2%, you have the drive to find out exactly why. salary: $30 - $40 per hourshift: Firstwork hours: 8 AM - 5 PMeducation: High SchoolResponsibilitiesThink of a Cost Accountant as the person who makes sure the boat isn’t just seaworthy, but profitable. Here is the "no-jargon" version of what they do: Managing the "Recipe": Keeping an exact list of every part—from the engines down to the last screw—and what they cost. Tracking Boats in Progress: Monitoring how much money is tied up in boats that are only half-finished on the factory floor. Setting the "Ideal" Price: Calculating exactly what a boat should cost to build before the first piece of fiberglass is even cut. Finding "Leaks": Investigating why a boat ended up costing more than the budget (e.g., "Why did we use 20% more resin this week?"). Splitting the Bills: Making sure the factory’s electricity, rent, and insurance are fairly added to the price of every boat sold. Watching the Clock: Checking if the crew is building the boats as fast as they’re supposed to, or if labor costs are spiraling. Cutting Down Trash: Finding ways to waste less expensive material, like teak wood or carbon fiber. Picking the Winners: Reporting which boat models make the most profit and which ones are barely breaking even. Counting the Warehouse: Physically making sure the expensive stuff (like $30,000 outboard motors) hasn't gone missing. Approving Big Buys: Helping the boss decide if buying a new $500,000 3D-cutting machine will actually save the company money in the long run.SkillsChartered AccountantCost AccountingStandard Cost/Cost Accounting StandardsCertified Management AccountantDirect CostCost ReportingProject CostManufacturing Cost AcctQualificationsYears of experience: 0 yearsExperience level: ExperiencedRandstad is a world leader in matching great people with great companies.
