Tatum by Randstad is recruiting for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Project Accountant for a Tempe, AZ-based civil and industrial construction contractor. The ideal candidate will take full ownership of the accounting and financial reporting for multiple construction projects. In this role, you will be the financial backbone of your assigned projects, ensuring their profitability and fiscal health from inception through completion.

responsibilities:
Project Billing & Revenue Management
- Lead the entire project billing lifecycle, from initial contract review to final closeout. You will be responsible for the timely preparation and submission of complex AIA G702/G703 payment applications and managing the schedule of values.
- Expertly navigate and manage billing submissions through various client payment portals, including GC Pay, ProCore, and Textura, to ensure compliance and prompt payment.
- Drive project cash flow by diligently managing accounts receivable. This includes proactively tracking the status of all payment applications and performing consistent follow-up on past-due accounts to minimize delays.
- Take ownership of all project-related cost accounting. This involves processing subcontractor and vendor invoices, managing outgoing payments, and ensuring every cost is accurately coded and allocated to the correct project within QuickBooks Desktop.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate project ledgers and financial records.
- Perform detailed monthly reconciliations for all assigned projects, regularly balancing bank statements and project balance sheets to ensure financial integrity.
- Serve as a critical player in the month-end and year-end financial closing processes by preparing all necessary project-related journal entries, accruals, and reports.
- Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external project audits, preparing and organizing all required financial documentation and providing clear explanations for project transactions.
- Ensure unwavering compliance with all construction accounting principles, financial regulations, and specific client billing procedures.
- Serve as a trusted financial partner and subject matter expert to project managers and other stakeholders, providing expert guidance and resolving inquiries related to project billing, costs, and overall financial status.
- Provide general support to the broader accounting team as needed.
- Maintain a secure and organized filing system for all critical project financial records.
qualifications:
- 5+ Years of accounting experience within the construction industry.
- AIA Billing experience required; must have hands-on experience with the preparation of AIA G702/G703 billing documents and the management of lien waivers.
- The ability to review and interpret the financial terms of construction contracts to ensure proper billing and revenue recognition.
- Experience submitting pay applications through GC Pay, ProCore, and Textura.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop and Excel (Pivot Tables, Vlookups, etc.).
- Must be willing to work onsite in Tempe, AZ
