Position Summary:
A growing, multi-national organization is seeking a skilled Accounts Payable Manager to lead and enhance its AP operations across the U.S. and Canada. This role will manage all facets of the accounts payable lifecycle, including leadership of a distributed team, systems integration, vendor relations, and compliance. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone tech-savvy, process-driven, and experienced in high-volume environments.

responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and mentor a geographically dispersed AP team, fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
- Oversee onboarding, training, and professional development of staff.
- Establish clear performance metrics and monitor team effectiveness.
- Manage day-to-day AP activities including invoice processing, payment scheduling, approvals, and expense reimbursements.
- Ensure timely execution of payment runs including ACH, wire transfers, card payments, checks, and international transactions.
- Oversee the reconciliation of AP subledgers to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and timeliness during month-end close.
- Maintain vendor records, resolve invoice discrepancies, and manage aging reports.
- Lead AP automation efforts and drive adoption of new technologies and workflows.
- Collaborate with procurement and IT to streamline purchasing-to-payment processes.
- Recommend and implement process improvements for efficiency, scalability, and control.
- Maintain compliance with relevant U.S. and Canadian tax laws (e.g., sales tax, GST/HST).
- Ensure internal controls are enforced and regularly reviewed.
- Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors as needed.
- Serve as primary contact for vendor onboarding, inquiries, and issue resolution.
- Manage electronic payment platforms, card programs, and supplier portals.
- Monitor vendor payment terms and negotiate favorable discounts where applicable.
- Utilize ERP and AP systems for transaction management, reporting, and analytics.
- Review and approve journal entries related to payables.
- Prepare and submit required filings for sales and use taxes across multiple jurisdictions.
qualifications:
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of progressive Accounts Payable Experience.
- At least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience supporting cross-border AP operations (U.S. and Canada) preferred.
- Strong familiarity with digital payment tools, ERP platforms (e.g., Epicor, SAP, or similar), and Excel.
- Working knowledge of SQL or data extraction/reporting tools is a plus.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a proactive, service-oriented mindset.
- High attention to detail with ability to manage competing priorities.
- Comfortable navigating high transaction volume and fast-paced environments.
- Adept at working with cross-functional teams and driving technology-enabled transformation.
- Capable of interpreting and applying financial regulations.
