What You’ll Do As an Intermediate Underwriter, you will utilize your expertise to assess risk for personal or commercial lines. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Risk Evaluation: Reviewing complex applications to determine eligibility, ensuring all risks align with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Decision Making: Utilizing a moderate level of authority to approve, modify, or decline coverage while balancing profitability with exceptional member service.
- Data Analysis: Leveraging advanced underwriting software and statistical data to identify trends and perform root-cause analysis.
- Collaboration: Acting as a subject matter resource for junior team members and maintaining relationships with internal partners to resolve escalated issues.
- Compliance: Ensuring all business activities are identified, monitored, and controlled in accordance with strict risk management policies.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience: 4+ years of experience in insurance or financial services, with at least 2 years specifically in an underwriting capacity.
- Technical Skills: Proficient knowledge of P&C insurance products, policy forms, and industry-standard software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Core Competencies: analytical reasoning, decisive judgment, and the ability to communicate complex decisions effectively to diverse audiences.
- Hold a professional designation such as CPCU, AU, or API.
- Previous experience in an "entrepreneurial" or high-volume environment.
- Military experience or a personal connection to the military community.
