We are a busy manufacturing company in Shirley, NY, looking for an experienced and hands-on Shipping Lead to drive our outbound freight operations. In this vital role, you'll be a key player in ensuring customer satisfaction and contributing to our company's financial health by leading the shipping team and implementing continuous improvements. This position offers a blend of hands-on work and strategic planning to optimize department operations.
What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like:
- Lead, train, and mentor the shipping team, coordinating daily tasks and prioritizing workflows to meet deadlines.
- Determine the optimal and most cost-effective LTL or Parcel shipping method for every customer order.
- Manage relationships with freight carriers, schedule timely pickups, and ensure smooth deliveries.
- Use shipping software like UPS WorldShip and FedEx to process shipments and generate all necessary documentation, including Bills of Lading and international paperwork.
- Drive continuous improvement, implementing 5S principles to enhance efficiency and maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Operate both stand-up and high-reach forklifts with precision to load and unload trucks in a multi-level pallet rack system.
- Manage and maintain the inventory of all shipping materials and supplies.
- A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in a lead shipping role, with experience in a manufacturing environment highly preferred.
- At least 3 years of verifiable indoor forklift experience, including high-reach and high-precision activities.
- Demonstrated expertise with UPS WorldShip and processing LTL shipments.
- Proven ability to accurately create and process all shipping paperwork.
- Proficiency with modern logistics software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- A clean driver's license is required.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; Spanish is a plus.
- Physical ability to regularly lift and/or move objects up to 70 pounds.

Responsibilities
