Location: Evanston + Greater Chicagoland Area Shift: 1st Shift | Start times vary | OT as needed based on business needs Pay: $27–$34/hr (based on experience) Role Summary: Randstad USA is seeking a Field Service Technician for a full-time, direct hire opportunity in the Chicagoland area. The technician will operate independently from a service vehicle, performing electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance on power systems at commercial sites. Ideal for experienced electricians, military techs, or electrical maintenance professionals with a strong customer service mindset.
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum (Must meet one of the following):
- 6+ years in electrical, electro-mechanical, or process controls field
- OR Technical diploma, Journeyman/Electrician Certification + 4 years industry experience
- OR 5+ years relevant commercial electrical + military technical background
- strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Familiarity with three-phase systems, generators, UPS, transfer switches, power electronics
- Knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety protocols
- Hands-on use of test/measurement equipment and interpreting electrical schematics
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with preventative maintenance routines
- Ability to work independently and manage schedule
- strong written and verbal communication in English
- Team-oriented, professional demeanor
- Comfortable using laptops, digital systems, and reporting tools
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly (occasionally 70 lbs)
- Frequent standing, reaching, squatting, and bending
- Climbing ladders and working on elevated platforms
- Must maintain a clean driving record

Responsibilities
- Complete field service dispatches, preventative maintenance, and electrical diagnostics
- Operate a service vehicle and manage daily workflows independently
- Troubleshoot electrical/power distribution systems, UPS, transfer switches, and controls
- Read and interpret single-line diagrams and electrical blueprints
- Maintain inventory and documentation; produce service reports
- Comply with site-specific access requirements, safety regulations, and PPE policies
- Collaborate with technical team and escalate complex issues as needed
- Occasionally travel outside of the district for training or projects
- Support occasional weekend or alternate schedules based on business needs
- Must be comfortable working on elevated platforms (8+ feet) as needed
