Responsibilities
- Perform grinding, polishing, and buffing operations on components using hand tools, stationary machines (e.g., belt sanders, bench grinders, buffing wheels), and portable grinders.
- Achieve specified surface finishes, including mirror finishes, satin finishes, and specific Ra (roughness average) requirements, as outlined in engineering drawings and specifications.
- Inspect finished parts for defects, using visual inspection and precise measuring tools such as profilometers, micrometers, and calipers.
- Select the appropriate abrasives, compounds, and tooling based on the material (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, titanium) and required finish.
- Maintain and clean grinding and polishing equipment and work areas to ensure a safe and efficient operation.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical specifications to determine the proper sequence of operations and finishing requirements.
- Perform minor preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on polishing equipment.
