Responsibilities
- Set up and operate conventional lathes and milling machines to perform complex machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, threading, milling, drilling, and tapping on various materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, brass).
- Select, install, and adjust appropriate tooling, attachments, and work holding devices (e.g., chucks, vises, fixtures).
- Calculate and set machine controls for speed, feed rates, and depth of cuts, considering material type, tooling, and finish requirements.
- Read and accurately interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges, to inspect parts and ensure conformance to specified tolerances.
- Perform in-process and final inspections to maintain strict quality control.
- Identify and correct machining discrepancies, adjusting machine settings as necessary.
