A Local Class B CDL Driver is responsible for operating heavy straight vehicles (typically over 26,000 lbs) within a specific geographic area, ensuring that goods or services are delivered safely and on time. Unlike Class A drivers, Class B drivers do not usually haul tractor-trailers, and unlike OTR (Over-the-Road) drivers, they are typically home every night.

Responsibilities

• Safe Vehicle Operation: Navigate local city streets, tight delivery docks, and residential areas in a vehicle such as a box truck, dump truck, cement mixer, or waste hauler.
  
  
• Inspections (Pre-Trip & Post-Trip): Conduct mandatory DOT inspections of the vehicle’s brakes, tires, lights, and fluids to ensure roadworthiness before and after every shift.
  
  
• Loading & Unloading: Manually move freight using pallet jacks, hand trucks, or by hand. This often requires the ability to lift 50–80 lbs repeatedly.
  
  
• Route Planning: Utilize GPS and local knowledge to choose the most efficient routes while avoiding low-clearance bridges or weight-restricted roads.
  
  
• Documentation: Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELDs) or paper logs, capture customer signatures, and manage delivery manifests or invoices.
  
  
• Customer Service: Act as the "face of the company" by communicating professionally with clients at delivery sites and resolving basic shipment discrepancies.
