Interim Controller immediate need with Tatum Consulting. This project opportunity is for an Interim Controller to backfill the position for a privately held upstream Oil & Gas company with $100+ million in revenue. The consultant's immediate need and initial focus is preparing the company for audit. This project will last over two months. The project requires the consultant to be onsite in the office 5 days a week.The location is in far North Dallas County.

responsibilities:
- Audit & Financial Stabilization: Successfully complete the pending 2025 audit and catch up on 2026 financials. You must lead the month-end close for an organization that has not issued reliable monthly financials for approximately five to six years.
- Controllership & Leadership: Manage an existing accounting staff of three to four individuals covering treasury, accounts payable, and joint interest billing.
- You will enforce accountability, establish an organized calendar, and improve communication regarding deadlines required for monthly distributions to Limited Partner funds.
- Establish month-end close policy and procedures.
- Staff Evaluation: Evaluate current staff to provide professional advice on performance and potential structural changes (such as outsourcing specific roles) rather than executing immediate restructuring.
- Reporting: Report administratively to company leadership and operationally to the financial leadership.
qualifications:
- Track record of several audit readiness successes with immediate deadlines.
- Management Level Experience: Proven experience operating at the Controller level. Consultant must be prepared to manage a company with an EBITDA in the $10 million to $20 million range and a projected annual capital budget of $125 million to $150 million.
- Industry Experience: Upstream oil and gas experience is required.
- JIB experience is required
- Accounting ERP Systems: Experience with W Energy software (formerly Wolfpack) is a strong plus, though direct experience is preferred rather than strictly mandatory.
- Education & Certifications: A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred but not mandatory.
- Work Environment Alignment: Strictly 100% on-site, Monday through Friday, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This role requires a high sense of urgency, transparent communication, and a focus on delivering reliable financial results.
