Tatum by Randstad has a new opportunity for an Interim Financial Controller. This project needs a consultant to start immediately and commit to a project that will be 4+ months in duration. The Interim Controller will be stepping in to backfill the Controller's role and there will be a 1 week knowledge transfer from the out going Controller. This project will be 100% remote. This project requires the consultant to work with a team on Eastern Standard Time Zone.
The company is an eCommerce Auto Insurance company and needs a Controller with a strong industry background in either B2C or B2B2C in Auto insurance. This role requires a professional who can "get their hands dirty" in a fast-paced startup environment working without constant engagement of management.
The ideal consultant is a fast learner who can provide stability while the company awaits a new CFO and eventually recruits a permanent replacement. You must be autonomous, capable of managing your own to-do list, and flexible regarding contract extension.

responsibilities:
Controllership for 5 different companies with a lot of intercompany transactions
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including:
- Accounts payable
- Accounts receivable
- Payroll
- General ledger management
- Preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Ensure accurate and efficient month-end and year-end close processes
- Manage both GAAP reporting and insurance statutory accounting requirements.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting across the group.
- Maintain accounting policies and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Support statutory financial reporting for regulated insurance entities.
- Assist with state regulatory filings and financial examinations.
- Ensure compliance with insurance regulatory financial requirements.
- Support monitoring of Risk-Based Capital (RBC) levels and capital reporting.
qualifications:
Must have a successful Track record with a Start-up fast paced small company in the insurance industry.
Must have 10+ years of accounting or finance experience.
Industry Expertise: P&C Insurance experience is mandatory, including knowledge of reserving and IBNR numbers.
Technical Accounting: Mastery of both Statutory and GAAP accounting is a baseline requirement.
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA qualification is strongly preferred.
ERP Systems: Proficiency in Sage Intacct is preferred.
Familiarity with Gain Compliance and Wolters Kluwer is helpful but learnable if statutory knowledge is present.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work daily with Legal, HR, and external actuaries; the role does not function in a silo.
