- The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides essential general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This highly critical role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of patient specimens, requiring a strong data entry background and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, biohazard environment. Flexibility and attention to compliance regulations are paramount for customer satisfaction and operational quality.

responsibilities:
- Specimen Processing: Perform general support functions, including but not limited to A-station duties, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Data Entry: Utilize data entry skills, maintaining a target of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour, with confidence and accuracy.
- Logistics & Organization: Manage the efficient flow of specimens, requiring good organizational skills to learn and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by the client.
- Compliance: Learn and understand complex and daily changing compliance regulations related to test ordering.
- Quality & Productivity: Meet departmental completion times and maintain emphasis on productivity and quality standards in a high-volume production setting.
- Safety & Environment: Work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits. Keep the work area neat and clean.
- Physical Demands: Able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Teamwork: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment, communicate effectively with all levels of staff, and adhere to core values.
- Flexibility: Demonstrate great flexibility and the ability to adapt to frequent changes and various demands made by customers and staffing needs.

- Basic computer skills
- Experience with lab testing and/or specimen processing
- Medical background, including knowledge of medical terminology
- Warehouse experience, performing routine responsibilities
