The intern will support the Insights team in evaluating R&D productivity and portfolio performance across Astellas' research and development organization. The role will focus on analyzing internal and external data to better understand key productivity metrics such as success rates, development cycle times, and portfolio progression. The intern will work with senior analysts and leadership stakeholders to help translate complex data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making in drug development.

responsibilities:
- Support analysis of R&D productivity metrics, including development cycle times, transition rates between phases, and probability of success across the portfolio.
- Conduct benchmarking against industry peers using external datasets and published studies to identify areas where the company performance differs from the broader pharmaceutical industry.
- Integrate internal portfolio data with external sources to generate insights on development efficiency, pipeline progression, and portfolio composition.
- Assist in the preparation of analytical reports and visualizations that communicate findings to senior R&D leadership.
- Contribute to the development of data-driven frameworks that help monitor and track productivity improvements over time.
- Produce a comprehensive analysis of R&D productivity metrics, highlighting key trends and improvement opportunities.
- Develop a benchmarking comparison of the company against industry peers across selected development metrics.
- Create visualizations or dashboards that illustrate portfolio performance and productivity indicators.
- Deliver a final presentation to the Insights team summarizing findings and recommendations.
qualifications:
- Pursuing an undergraduate, master's or PhD degree in life sciences with a minimum GPA of 3.3
- Must have an interest in pursuing a career in Life Sciences/Biotech/Pharmaceuticals
- Ability to manage workload effectively including planning, organizing, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with experience working with complex datasets.
- Ability to translate analytical findings into clear insights and recommendations for non-technical audiences.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional environment.
- Interest in industry benchmarking, productivity analysis, and portfolio analytics within pharmaceutical R&D.
