We are seeking a skilled Scientist I (Scientific) for a premier 1-year, 100% onsite role in Waltham, MA. Joining a Top-Tier Global Pharma Leader within their Genomic Medicine Unit, you will focus on the design, optimization, and scale-up of viral and non-viral gene therapy purification processes. This laboratory-based role (70-80% lab time) offers an excellent environment for driving bioprocess innovation with advanced downstream technologies.

responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct viral/non-viral vector purification process development and process analytics.
- Optimize purification processes utilizing downstream technologies, including column chromatography and filtration unit operations.
- Develop, conduct, and maintain analytical assays (ELISA, DLS, Octet, qPCR, HPLC, CE-SDS) for in-process sample testing.
- Perform data analysis, troubleshoot experiments, and communicate findings across internal and external teams.
- Support technology transfer activities to CDMOs and lead manufacturing scale-up initiatives.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical reports and regulatory documentation.
qualifications:
Required:
- PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) with 0-3 years of experience; OR a Master's degree with 4+ years of experience; OR a Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of professional biotech industry experience.
- Hands-on protein purification chromatography and filtration experience (depth filtration, TFF).
- Proven experience with modern analytical techniques (spectrophotometry, ELISA, DLS, Octet, qPCR, or HPLC).
- Strong understanding of tech transfers, gap analyses, and Quality by Design (QbD)/DOE principles.
- Critical thinking and excellent professional communication skills.
- Experience in AAV or non-viral purification development.
- Late-stage purification experience (design space mapping and process robustness studies).
