Growing company in Liberal, KS is seeking a Director of Quality to add to their team. The ideal candidate will have management experience in steel manufacturing and Quality. Detailed knowledge of API and ISO 9001 standards is required, along with a deep understanding of welding fundamentals, advanced inspection techniques, and relevant industry codes. responsibilities:
- Implement and manage comprehensive quality control systems
- Lead, supervise, and direct employees within the quality function, fostering a highly productive team with strong technical integrity.
- Oversee and manage field repair operations
- Investigate and assist in the correction of complex customer issues and complaints relating to quality, driving root cause analysis and effective corrective actions
- Coordinate quality objectives with production procedures in cooperation with the Director of Manufacturing to maximize product reliability and minimize costs across all stages of production.
- Develop, document, and implement detailed inspection criteria and procedures
- Interpret and communicate the company's quality control philosophy and strategic objectives to key personnel across all departments.
- Provide and oversee comprehensive inspection activity for products throughout the entire production cycle, from raw material to final shipment.
- Interact with vendors to establish and ensure the quality of all purchased parts and materials.
- Direct advanced test functions and applications, validating product performance and integrity.
- Oversee the generation and maintenance of crucial quality documentation, including weld maps, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Welder Qualification Records (WQR), and detailed inspection reports.
- Bachelor's degree in a business, science, or engineering related field of study preferred, or prior relevant business management experience in a manufacturing company.
- At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, previous steel manufacturing experience required
- Minimum of 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience in a quality control function
- Detailed knowledge of API and ISO 9001 standards
- In-depth familiarity with API, ASME (especially Section IX for welding qualifications and Section VIII for pressure vessels), and UL standards
- Comprehensive understanding of various welding processes
- Expertise in reading and interpreting complex welding symbols and detailed fabrication blueprints
- Proficiency in Visual Inspection for identifying surface defects and knowledge of common weld discontinuities
- Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques
- Proven ability to manage and ensure the accuracy of critical quality documentation, including weld maps
- Highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently and strategically.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and priorities, easily adapting to changing situations and driving results.
- Computer proficient, with experience in quality management software.
- Some travel required to another company location, less than 10%
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to traverse in and out of tanks.
- bilingual Spanish is a plus.
