Large utility is looking for a Design Technician. This is a remote position based in Lansing, MI. The Design Technician requiring an Associate degree or equivalent design experience, is responsible for creating safe and practical mechanical gas system designs using CAD software like MicroStation or Bentley OpenPlant, supporting engineering documentation, material procurement, and field data collection, with strong communication, drafting, and computer skills. responsibilities:
- Design mechanical systems for gas transmission and distribution facilities.
- Develop designs for gas facility reliability, relocation, and capacity projects.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure efficient, high-quality designs.
- Assist with documentation for engineering activities and projects.
- Support material procurement and help develop design standards.
- Design gas distribution systems (for customer relocations, capacity upgrades, or reliability).
- Use CAD software (Bentley OpenPlant or MicroStation).
- Track project progress using spreadsheets/databases.
- Create projects/orders and order materials via SAP.
- Proficiency in CAD software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, or similar).
- strong computer and application knowledge.
- Clear communication skills for conveying designs.
- Ability to create safe, ergonomic, and practical designs.
