Cost Specialist with expertise in cost management needed in St. Louis, MO. This position will play a critical role on an Engineering and Construction team and will require monthly travel to the client site on the east coast. Candidates need to have a relevant Bachelors degree and at least 7 years of experience.

responsibilities:
- Develops, monitors, and maintains project cost control systems, budgets, and forecasts for construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
- Tracks and analyzes project expenditures, commitments, and cost trends to identify potential overruns and opportunities for savings.
- Prepares detailed cost reports, variance analyses, and cash flow projections for project management and executive leadership.
- Reviews and verifies contractor invoices, change orders, and purchase orders for accuracy and compliance with contractual terms.
- Collaborates with project managers, estimators, schedulers, and procurement teams to ensure alignment between budget, schedule, and scope.
- Assists in developing cost breakdown structures (CBS) and coding systems for accurate reporting.
- Supports earned value management (EVM) processes to measure project performance and productivity.
- Identifies, documents, and escalates cost risks, recommending mitigation strategies to maintain budget integrity.
- Maintains historical cost data to support future project estimating and benchmarking.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and industry best practices in cost control.
