A Process Controls Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Corning, NY area. This Process Controls Engineer role involves designing, developing, and implementing classical and advanced process control solutions to optimize manufacturing efficiency and profitability, requiring expertise in control theory, programming, and strong teamwork skills.

responsibilities:
- Work individually or in multi-disciplinary teams to design and implement process control solutions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to gain in-depth process knowledge and identify new opportunities.
- Evaluate existing control strategies and propose enhancements (e.g., cascade control, feedforward).
- Apply advanced, model-based control algorithms such as Model Predictive Control (MPC) and Internal Model Control (IMC).
- Develop and maintain MPC-based solutions.
- Work with manufacturing teams to define hardware and software platforms.
- Facilitate the transfer of new technologies into manufacturing and provide training.
- Generate intellectual property through reports and patent applications.
- strong understanding and practical application of classical control theory (e.g., PID tuning).
- Familiarity with advanced process controls (MPC, non-linear, cascade, feed-forward).
- Programming experience in MATLAB/Simulink.
- Controls-oriented modeling (system identification).
- Experience with programming languages like Python, C++, or C#.
- Experience with or desire to learn PLC and other IEC-based programming.
- Experience with MPC implementation, maintenance, and tuning.
- Experience applying multivariate statistical process control methods (PCA, PLS).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with a focus on controls.
- A Master's is preferred.
- 1 to 5 years of manufacturing experience. New graduates with relevant internship experience will be considered.
